Coating
Function:When the volatile liquid evaporates from the vehicle a film containing both the binder and the pigment is left .In this film there may or may require chemical conversion to an insoluble state this depends on the type of binder used or additives to it.
General types: Most binders are either high molecular weight, non reactive organic polymer or low to medium molecular weight reactive polymer capable of being further polymerized via chain extension or cross linking reaction to high molecular weight film.
Types: Raw or processed Linseed oil,unsaturated dehydrated caster oil,soya oil,Phenolic resins,alkyd resins,polyesters,amino resins,fatty polyamides,epoxy resins,urethane polymers,silicone resins,cellulose esters and ethers,water borne systems and non aqueous dispersions.
