1. Safety glasses must be worn at all times. 2. If anyone (not just group members) enters the lab without safety glasses, they must be told to put on safety glasses. 3. Appropriate gloves must be worn when handling chemicals, hot equipment, or cold equipment. 4. No eating or drinking in the lab. 5. No horseplay, running or other unsafe activity within the lab. 6. All equipment must be shut down and the teaching assistant must be called to lock the room before leaving. 7. Shorts, skirts, or dresses should not be worn in the lab unless a full-length lab coat is worn over them (i.e. legs should be covered). 8. Spills should be cleaned up immediately. 9. Every person in the lab should know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher or extinguishers, first aid kit, and telephone. 10. Every person participating in an experiment should have read the MSDS for every chemical being used in that experiment and should be aware of the hazards and risks associated with the use of those chemicals. They should also know the proper procedure for handling all materials. 11. Every person participating in an experiment should know the proper emergency shut-down procedure for the equipment being used. |
