The table below lists the approximate temperature each group is to study. You should make two or three runs at your assigned temperature (as time permits), and report the results from all runs. To begin, distilled water is pumped into the isothermal reactor using the appropriate micropump. The exact value of the volumetric flow rate, can be obtained from the calibration curve for the pump and recorded. When the reactor is filled and the temperature does not change, the micropump to feed the acetic anhydride should be turned on. The volumetric flow rate of acetic anhydride should be approximately ten times smaller than the volumetric flow rate of water (see the calibration curves) and should be recorded. Readings of the conductivity and the reactor fluid temperature should be recorded every three minutes. When steady-state is reached, the feed pumps can be shut down. The system should be drained and all reactor fluid collected to measure its volume which should be recorded. The fluid should then be transferred to a properly marked bottle so that it can later be legally and properly disposed of. The next run can then be started.
