Group B: CARGO BOT Project

A Clever Autonomous Robotic Gripper Operating (CARGO) BOT for in-factory transport of packaged goods and materials

The main purpose of this project is to develop a transportation system capable of monitoring package availability and moving the package from one station to another with implementing a wireless communication framework. A base station is set up to detect the availability of a package, and a wheeled mobile robot (WMR) with a gripper system is used to pickup the package and transports it to a drop-off station.

The Platform

The “in-factory environment” is made of “hardboard”. There are 3 stations in this “environment: Home, Pick-Up and Drop-Off Stations. There is a Control Base Station, which detects the package availability at the Pick-Up Station, and a WMR as a mobile unit, which move the package from the Pick-Up Station to the Drop-Off Station. The Operation: Closer View

The Control Base Station has an LCD screen, which displays the message of the status of the operation while the package is being transported. When a package is available at the Pick-Up Station, the WMR departs from the Home Station to the Pick-Up Station. The package is picked up by a gripper system in front of the WMR and transported to the Drop-Off station. [AVI MOVIE]

The Operation: Top View

The system has another feature, which ensure the package is dropped-off properly at the Drop-Off Station. If the package does not turn on the switch at the Drop-Off Station, the Control Base Station will send another message to have the WMR to pick the package up and drop it off again. These statuses will also be displayed on the LCD screen. [AVI MOVIE]
